As an entrepreneur, creating routines that are aimed toward your personal care and development is non-negotiable. It can be tempting to work non-stop and neglect self-care, but it's important to prioritize our well-being in order to sustain long-term success.

This could include setting aside time for exercise, meditation, or hobbies that bring us joy. By taking care of ourselves physically and mentally, we are able to show up as our best selves in our businesses.

Let’s talk about morning routines.

It is not ideal for you to wake up and immediately start work. You will feel drained, burnt out, and a lack of purpose. Instead, make sure you allocate some time in the morning to do something that you enjoy. This could be as simple as making a cup of coffee and reading a few pages of your favorite book, or taking a quick walk outside to get some fresh air. These small moments can help set the tone for the rest of your day.

Your morning routine should always include some form of nutrition. Whether this is a smoothie or larger meal, choose what works best for you. Food is fuel, and you won’t be able to make it through your day in the best way without it.

Define a few non-negotiables that you must do every day during your morning routine. Mine are:

  • Eat a nutritious breakfast

  • Meditate/Journal

  • Go to the gym

Now, onto evening routines.

Another important aspect of self-care as an entrepreneur is setting boundaries. It's easy to feel like we have to always be available and working, but it's essential to establish clear limits and communicate them with others. This could mean turning off work notifications after a certain time, scheduling designated "work-free" days, or saying no to tasks that don't align with our priorities.

Define a time of day when it’s time to switch from work mode to you mode.

My personal "cut-off" time for work hours is 6:00 PM. After this time, I consciously make the decision to step away from any work-related tasks or communications. This transition period is crucial for me to recharge and focus on my personal life. It allows me to enjoy dinner with my family, engage in leisure activities, or simply relax without the looming pressure of unfinished work. Remember, setting this boundary isn't just beneficial for your mental health; it also improves productivity and creativity by ensuring you return to work refreshed and ready to tackle challenges with a clear mind. So, don’t feel guilty about prioritizing your well-being by establishing a definitive end to your workday. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you for it.

Many people also implement a “pre-work” routine that includes meditating, journaling, or cleaning their space. This allows them to enter the workday with a calm and organized mindset.
